GTPv2 cause 100 Remote peer not responding

GTPv2-C cause3GPP TS 29.274 §8.4 (Table 8.4-1)

What it means

The node this request was sent to never answered at all -- the responding side of THIS message is reporting that a peer it depends on timed out (Remote peer not responding). The failure is one hop further away than the node that generated this message.

Where you see it

In the Cause IE of a GTPv2-C response (Create Session, Modify Bearer, Delete Session…) on S11, S5 or S8.

What to check

Identify which further node the responding node was waiting on (visible in the network path) and check whether that node -- not the one that generated this message -- is the one not responding.

Check which node sent the response (MME, SGW or PGW): the cause belongs to that node's decision.
